Public Works? Public Fun! Sierra Vista Public Works

3rd Annual Open House
The boys had a great time - (Sariah got sleepy)....
From garbage trucks... helicopters ... firetrucks ... smoke house... tractors... it was fun for boys!

Before and after!

So a few months ago... Jarom came running in the house from the backyard saying that Elijah was bleeding. I ran out the backdoor... I noticed 2 drops of blood on his finger but quickly noticed a bigger problem. My window! I was like what happened... Elijah says my finger and I replied I don't care about your finger look at my window what happened? He preceded to tell me that he was throwing rocks on the roof and one of them missed .... this was the result! See below.
(Sad to say this is the 2nd window the boys have broke. The other window was a stain glass one that a toy sword hit and broke.)
Before (the window was replaced)

After (finally a new window)

What a week.....

Busyness! So much going on... IEP meetings - cooking club - book club- Bunco- making dinner for a friend - Jarom's Author's Tea book reading at school (his class created a book by all of them so neat!). Sariah is finally well (after 12 days a of a stomach virus)! Today is Elijah's last day of preschool this year! Jarom ends First grade next Thur. We did find out through me being persistent with the school that there might be something not quite right with Jarom's learning... and through lots of testing ... that he has a real bad short term memory problem. So now I just need to figure out what next!

My Mother's Day...

My Mother's Day was so sweet (except for having a sick one at home with me...) But the boys were thrilled to come to my bedroom and bring me their gifts. Precious Moments - cards - (sweet card from my husband) and I especially loved my flowers from the boys. They have a funny story about them... that I haven't been released to say. But they are memorable and we will always smile when we think of this past Mother's Day. I am so honored to be the mom of two terrific boys and one adorable girl! Blessed mom I am!

Jarom's Field Trip

So greatful for a good friend who went on the field trip with her daughter and took me a few photos of Jarom's field trip. Hard when he is the oldest and I can't go (Elijah's class lets me go with Sariah) - But Jarom loved the field trip - including falling asleep with his friend on the bus.

Another field trip for Elijah....

Sariah and I were very happy to go along... well I take that back... Sariah hasn't felt too well... so she just went along - no smiles.

SV Riding Club helps youngsters lasso up some fun
By Dana ColeHerald/Review
Published on Tuesday, May 06, 2008
SIERRA VISTA — Some of Carmichael School’s youngsters got to try their hand as wranglers.Carmichael’s special-needs preschoolers recently spent time at the Sierra Vista Riding Club where they dabbled in roping, learned how to brush a horse, were taught safety rules around horses and got to sit tall in a saddle.

Elijah Richins shows his lasso technique during a trip to the Sierra Vista Riding Club by the Carmichael Elementary School’s Special Needs Preschool students. The students learned about horses and life on a ranch.
For some of the children, ranging in age from 3 to 5, it was the first time they had been close to a horse. The buckaroos started their day with a bus ride provided by Sierra Vista Transit. The preschoolers boarded the bus at Carmichael, paid their fares and were transported to the riding cub’s new facility.Preschool teachers Bonnie Welton and Judy Render work with 48 special needs children in the course of one day, in two different sessions.“We have morning and afternoon programs, both are 2 1/2 hours long,” said Welton. “We do as many traditional activities as possible with the kids, but because of their unique needs, all of them have an individual educational plan, or IEP, which is designed specifically for them.”Some are in preschool for speech concerns and work with a speech therapist, while some of the children have more severe physical problems caused by cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injuries or are developmentally delayed.Goals for the children range from improving academic areas to developing social and emotional skills. Field trips give the students fun hands-on projects, allowing them to work on motor function while improving listening and communication skills. The riding club experience was one of several field trips the youngsters have taken through the year.“We’ve been on a few field trips this year, and the kids love them,” Welton said. “We’ve visited the pumpkin patch in Hereford and Beatty’s Apple Orchard in Miller Canyon. We’ve hiked the San Pedro River and hiked around the Coronado National Memorial where docents spoke to the kids about the history and kinds of plants and animals in the area.”On Thursday the students will be going to The Cove where Buena High School swimmers are going to work with them, giving them swimming pointers.A few of the children are in CANTER’s therapeutic riding program, so those students already had some experience with horses when they visited the riding club.“They learned so much that day,” Welton said. “All the children learned how to brush a horse, how to feed a horse a treat by keeping their hand flat and they got to sit up on a horse.”Alicia Carter, one of the parents who went along to help with the children said, “It was a wonderful day for the kids. They got to feed the horses carrots and we learned about safety around the horses,” Carter said.“Most of these kids don’t ever get to be around horses, so it was a really fun experience for them. They could see that even though the horse is a big animal, it’s really gentle.”Carter’s 5-year-old daughter, Savannah, is enrolled in the preschool program for speech therapy.“She loves horses, so this was a really fun field trip for her,” Carter said. The preschoolers also mounted a child-sized saddle while learning about stirrups and saddle horns. They saw barrel racing and arena riding demonstrations by Brittany Woods and Kelly Borer, while Tombstone Deputy Marshall Charlie Glover taught the youngsters roping with a replica steer.

What qualifies a mom?

Well in my house it is her cooking! LOL
Jarom's prayers lately especially over dinner have always included "and please bless mom that she will always make us good food." Sign of relief every night when he happens to be pleased with dinner... including last nights first (crab cakes). I wonder how often he thinks it is not "good food?"

Monday...

Whew! Another week beginning... Survived the busy weekend. Friday evening was Jarom's school carnival. The boys had a great time. Saturday morning I took the boys to the community event the Children's Festival... the boys thought I was the best mom ever and once again had a great time. That afternoon Jarom had a friends birthday party to go to. Sunday came we have to be out the door by 7:30AM yes AM ... by 7AM Jarom was complaining of his tummy so I staying home with the 3 kiddos. Sariah acted like it was the end of the world all day. Peeked into her mouth and saw two new teeth and another 2 or more about to poke through. So I guess she has a right to think that I should now be more than 3 inches away from her. Still trying to baby proof everything - yesterday I was on the phone in my room and Sariah was with my - I turned around and couldn't see her. I walked down the hall and noticed her in the bathroom. Slipping and sliding while crawling around... she had dumped a bottle of baby oil out. Oh my! - Today Elijah will be casted for his 3rd pair of AFO's (leg braces) I think he has decided to just stick with blue ones. Better get on with my Monday...
